I've had a blessed and adventurous life. My Dad is Charlie Wing the author and people often here the name and think they are contacting him when they call me. My mother Susan is a good woman who always tried to do her best for me. I challenged that love constantly throughout my teens and twenties but we've all come out OK. I's say in general I had a pretty awesome childhood.
By the time I graduated High School I had determined to become a professional drummer. I had enjoyed my high school band "FEEDBACK" and later "MARSHAL LAW" and especially with the later band we just had a great time. It was just like Babylon and we lived the life of "Sex, Drugs, and Rock and Roll" about as much as anyone - it was the 80's and it really seemed at the time like everyone was doing it. My brothers Bobby Rox and Rick Yanock practiced constantly in the "Buddha House" but rarely played out except for some memorable keg parties (I remember a crazy one playing inside the foundation of a yet to be built house) and occasional club gigs at places like GENO'S in Portland. The cops certainly knew who we where and we drove around the town of Brunswick in Bobby's "Marshal Law Van" until it all caught up to us. Bob rolled the van, Rick went off to the Army, and Bob moved to Daytona Beach in FLA.
Next for me was a long standing gig at the Harbor Light in Bath. I ended up playing there every Sunday for about 7 years. I formed a group of really great players around me and we called it variously "Triple Threat, Lumbering Hog Review, Amused and then, for awhile, Not Amused" The main band was "Amused" with John Moran on guitar, Richard Dall on bass, and Brooks Tuttle on keys. John Moran introduced me to Arlo West right around 1990 and that began a stint in the "Arlo West Band" which had me flying down to Dallas, Texas to record an album at Dallas Sound Lab, a studio that Stevie Ray Vaughn had recorded. We also played all over New England and even playing as far out as Chillicothy Ohio for a major biker rally playing in front of thousands. The reasons for my departure are too long to recount here. Suffice to say Arlo and I are friends today.
Next I met a cat named Andy Pouliot who we dubbed"Andre the Killer". He convinced me to join an up and coming cover band called "Trillion" and I played many gigs with them for over a year. My experiences playing with Trillion and Arlo West convinced me that I could do my own band so I took the guys from the Harbor Light gig and started and band called "Shark Sandwich".
Shark Sandwich was quit successful on a local level. We had a local access show called "Maine Music Scene" and released a tape called "Shark Attack" We drove around in the "Shark Van" and got involved in just as much debauchery as we had in Marshal Law. In fact Bob Rox who had played in Marshal Law was the bass player as well as Rolf Henke on guitar. It was tough because I did all the booking, owned the PA and the van, and did most of the driving. Back then you could play one club Wed. and Thurs., another club Fri. and Sat. and then we would finish up at the Harbor Light on Sundays. Eventually we all "burned out" and went our separate ways.
Next I went back to school to learn about television production, which had sparked my interest when doing the local access show. For two years I dropped out of the music scene and concentrated on school. It was an incredible experience where I was exposed to computers and programming for CD ROM's and later HTML. This was around 1997 and I started my web design company called BLACKWING MULTIMEDIA that still exists and I am always looking for more work so I hope you check out the web business if you think you might need my services.
